When Eva was new in her school there were some children who couldn’t play with her because their parents didn’t allow it. The most interesting thing about the village life was the process of gaining their new community’s acceptance. Maurice and Laura used to live above an erotic club they owned and filmed in, but they moved out to the quieter village once Eva got a little older. The sex and the bodies are very real, not fake, not glamorous. Like Maurice and Laura, their other actors are ordinary people. And, from time to time, they are the porn stars as well.
It’s still a modest operation: they produce the movies and both work the camera. The duo, more than anything, are small business owners: together they started a production company called “Stout!” around a decade ago. They’ve given me unfettered access to both their personal and professional lives. I photographed the family for two years for my project called Paradi$e Lu$t. They have all the trappings of a normal family, but when 9-year-old Eva is at school, Maurice and Laura start their day jobs as porn producers. The naturists enjoy the health benefits of nude sun and sea bathing.In a Flemish village outside of Turnhout, Belgium, Laura and Maurice live together with their daughter Eva. Naturism in Britain has been occasionally sexualised by some sections of the media but social nudity has no direct relationship to either sexuality or sex. FKK resorts exist around the world and other European countries have a liberal approach to public nudity. Freikoerperkultur or FKK meaning Free Body Culture is a German movement endorsing a naturistic approach to life combining nature and nudity. A landslip has made Pilchard Cove harder to reach and most settle for the nether regions of Slapton Sands. The beach at Pilchard Cove in Devon to the north of Slapton Sands Nature Reserve has been an unofficial nudist beach since the 1930s. Naturists use this section of beach and locals and Strete Parish Council are concerned about the complaints and have agreed to take a closer look. In the late fifties and early sixties the fight to decriminalise homosexuality is stepped up but attitudes are slow to change even with the advent of a more sexually free society.
Complaints have come in about Pilchard Cove possibly because of the far end being a meeting place for the gay community, still a risky business in 1961.
